The data fitting tool allows users to input a series of points and to fit a curve to those points by a variety of different methods. The data set used is fully customisable by the user and points can be added/removed to see how the fitted line behaves.

The simpler of the two optimization tools, this will aim to find a minimum based on the start point you give it. This may or may not be the closest minimum to the start point.

The global optimization tool attempts to find the global minimum of a function using a range of algorithms. Generally, though, the global minimum is not guaranteed to be found, and sometimes only a local minimum is found.
